New Year, New You

Happy New Year!

I love reinvention and what better time than the end of the year to say goodbye to the old & hello to the new? I spent the day gettin my herr did + getting dressed for some NYE celebration. We went to a friend's {amazing} place, overindulged for hours and laughed our butts off. It was perfect.

I went for a flapper vibe a bit, because for some reason 20's-30's makes me think of New Year's. And plenty of sparkle. It was a fun outfit to lounge in fancily. Fancy-lounging is my new favorite way to celebrate the holidays.

I got this awesome nail polish today too, it's from the OPI Burlesque line. It's called Sparklicious. It took 3 coats to get it opaque without a color underneath, a tip I snagged from awesome Katie, the nail polish maven. I love this color. It looks like fireworks...perfect for New Year's Eve.

I also couldn't resist including these snaps of the one I kissed at midnight. He looked so dapper. :)

Stolen Goods

Nothing I'm wearing is actually stolen. I don't think. Wait... No. Probably not. It's also not a dress. I know...psych out. The cardigan was a gift from my mother in law and the cowl, tights + headband are all gifts from my mom. What was stolen was the idea. I stole the color & wardrobe combo from another Sarah. Even though I think hers worked better, I'm happy with how this turned out. It was very warm and comfortable, and after all, isn't that the nature of the business casual beast? Is that the beast behind me there?

Bruiser

I suppose bruiser typically refers to something homely. But if you want to know what I think, I think bruises are cool. I think injuries are sad, but I love color and I just find bruises to be gorgeous. I do. What? I especially like how they are always morphing from one watercolor painting to another, day by day. Paint by Numbers. Paint by Blunders.

This outfit is a bit bruisey, what with the purple & black, green & blue jewelry plus the fleshy tones of the tights. We took these photos when I was home for lunch, so I am wearing slippers. I really wore these booties with these tights again.

Goin On a Bear Hunt

Something about this vest. I can't seem to escape the safari-woodsman-outdoorsy feeling I get in it. I decided to go all in & pair it with this harvest-leaf/field-print sweater dress (that I'm wearing as a shirt layered underneath the skirt), why not, right?

Lemon Lime Layers

I fancy myself a bit of a sprite. So today I decided to dress like one. Except it's a bit of a double entendre, as I costumed more like the lemon-lime carbonated beverage, Sprite, (dist. by Coca Cola), and less a woodland creature.

Square

Plaid print + ruffley skirt {worn high}. This says square dance to me. But I'm cool with it. And I am sort of stomping through the four corners of this week & dancing into the holiday. All that's left to do is work, wrap & travel...

Diez Dias

Ten days until Christmas! Ah! I'm so excited. Saying constant prayers that no crazy weather foils our travel plans ~ we're heading about 3 hours south to see my family. Cross your frost bitten little fingies for us, I'll do the same for you!

A Whole New World

Between the vest, the walking shorts/tights/boots & the flouncy, tunic-y blouse I felt just like Aladdin today. As I strapped the vest on this morning, "A Whole New World" instantly popped into my head. I played Princess Jasmine in a community theatre musical production of the famed tale when I was 16 {thank you, thank you}.

In this imagined production however, I'm most certainly cast as the title role.

I like the costume, though.

May Your Days Be {Cozy} & Bright

This outfit is cozy and bright, warm and eye-catching. I stole...ahem...took inspiration for this combo from Kendi. She wore a similar dress (same style & brand, different print) with a gray sweater. I thought it was brilliant.

Mazel Tov (the four legged one pictured), is always complaining of not being featured in the blog enough. After all, she wears a beautiful coat, which is always well-fitting and clean, she deserves some props for it.

dress: Tucker for Target, cardigan: thrifted ($3!), leggings & boots: Target, belt: Charlotte Russe, headband: T.J. Maxx, nail polish: Fifth Avenue, China Glaze, earrings: handmade by Adeline :)
